Pocos materiales producen luz, pero muchos reflejan parte de la que incide sobre ellos.Cuando mira usted un objeto, lo que ve es la luz que refleja su superficie y que brinda a sus ojos información acerca del color del objeto, su forma, su textura y otras características visuales.



      Bajo el microscopio, muchas superficies, no importa cuán planas parezcan, aparecen rugosas, compuestas por muchas formas complejas dispuestas al azar. Este desorden de diminutas superficies reflejantes esparce al azar la luz. La superficie reflejante de muchos obbjetos es demasiado dispareja para permitirle ver una imagen reflejada de la fuente de luz. Incluso las pàginas de este libro, aparentemente   lisas, no le permitirán ver la luz real   que hace posible que usted lo lea.
                      Sin embargo , los espejos planos tienen una superficie pulida y son  capaces de reflejar   la luz que sobre ellos incide, de una manera tan uniforme que conserva sus características. Esto permite ver el reflejo de una imagen clara, sin distorsiones, de donde proviene la luz.






·······················································Si la superficie del espejo es curva, la claridad de la imagen se conserva pero su forma cambia. La luz incide y se refleja de una seperficie con el mismo ángulo respecto a la perpendicular. Sobre una superficie curva, el ángulo entre los rayos luminosos que inciden y la  perpendicular varía de un lugar a otro y la imagen se distorsiona.
    Si observa con cuidado en muchos espejos, verá dos reflejos de su imagen, uno bien definido y otro difuso. La reflexión maor proviene de un recubrimiento de metal plateado al reverso del vidrio, y el difuso, de la superficie frontal del mismo.






           El recubrimiento plateado refleja la mayor parte de la luz que incide sobre él.






                OTRO TIPO DE RECUBRIMIENTOS ABSORBEN ALGUNOS RAYOS DE LA LUZ PARA IMPARTIR AL ESPEJO UN MATIZ DORADO O DE CUALQUIER OTRO COLOR.
